When stock is the right answer
A stock progressive is finished before anyone knows your name. That is the whole of its argument: there is no surfacing to wait for, and none of the cost of calculating a surface for one prescription. For a spare pair, for a lens needed now, or for a first cautious try at progressives, that is usually the right trade.
It is also the honest answer when the budget is fixed. A stock lens fitted carefully in a frame that sits properly will serve a wearer better than a lens from further up this page fitted carelessly — the fitting height and the frame decide more of the result than the tier does.
Its limit
What a stock lens cannot do is know you. It does not know your prescription, how far the lens sits from your eye, how the frame tilts, or how much it wraps — and those are not details, they are the difference between a design that is correct on paper and a lens that is correct on your face. A made-to-order lens is surfaced with those numbers in it. That is what individual optimization actually means: not a cleverer design, but this design solved for your eyes and your frame.
When to move up
Versatile is a stock design. If you're wearing progressives for the first time, spend the day moving between distances, or have struggled to adapt before, Dynamix and above are freeform, surfaced to order for your exact prescription; from Zenn up, the optics are also calculated for how your frame sits. Versatile is the answer when today matters more than tailoring.

Versatile is a stock lens: one universal progressive geometry, engineered once to suit the widest range of faces and made in advance. Nothing is calculated for your order — which is exactly why it is immediate and affordable.
That is not the same as unoptimized. A modern stock progressive is a computed design, not a molded guess. Before a mold is ever cut, the surface is worked through in software: how quickly power climbs down the corridor, how much unwanted astigmatism is allowed to gather toward the edges and where it is pushed to, and the aspheric correction that softens the blur you meet when you look through the periphery rather than straight through the center. That work is done once, for everybody — but it is done, and a stock progressive designed this way is a materially better lens than a stock progressive of twenty years ago.
The corridor is drawn for a universal fit. Instead of a set of corridor lengths to choose between, Versatile carries one geometry with the near zone placed to stay usable across the range of fitting heights a normal frame gives you. That is why there is no fitting-height selector on this page, and it is the practical reason Versatile can sit in a drawer and be dispensed the same day.
