A clear progressive lens standing on its edge in warm light: a distant horizon seen through its top, an open book through its bottom, the sides of the view softly blurred.

Getting used to your new progressives

The first weeks, stage by stage — what to expect, and when a problem is a fitting question rather than a you question.

  1. Days 1–3

Expect the floor to seem to curve and edges to swim. Move your head toward what you want to see, not just your eyes. Wear them all day rather than switching back to your old pair — switching resets the learning.

  2. Days 4–10

The swimming should be fading. Practice finding the reading zone on a newspaper at a table before trusting it on stairs. On stairs, lower your chin and look through the top of the lens.

  3. Week 2

Most people stop noticing the lens entirely. If you are still hunting for the reading area, go back to your optician — that is a fitting question, not a you question.

  4. Week 4

The non-adaptation window closes 30 days from invoice. Raise any concern before this. If the design genuinely doesn't suit you, that is exactly what the cover is for.
